Choosing a New Wakeboard

1. Should I get a package board?

If you are just getting started in the sport and have less than 500 bucks to spend on a board and bindings then a package is probably a good start. Packages are budget-priced and readily available. You’ll get just as much personal and expert attention as you would if you were getting a higher end model. The main difference will be in the shape and performance of the board, and stiffness of the boots.

2. What is better? Buying a board in person or online?

Looking at a board online doesn’t always do the product justice. Sometimes graphics and colour variations look different in person and board shapes are harder to see online. A new board is a big deal and can represent a significant chunk of change, so the more you get to see it and even try it out, the better. That said, checking out the website is a great way to get the specs you need on any board, and we have no problem shipping it out to you if there isn’t a shop near by.

3. What if I love a board but hate the graphics?

Or vice versa. While we like to think that you will judge a board solely on its merits, we personally would never drive a pink polka-dotted Ferrari, either. But what’s going to give you more wake cred – those graphics that you’ll get bored with soon or that Pete Rose you’ll land because you had the right board? Yeah, that’s what we thought.

4. How many boards do I need?

Let’s say three: 1. a brand new wakeboard picked specifically for this season and what you want to accomplish; 2. a board you can take on the rails, maybe your old board that now becomes the ‘beater’; 3. a wakeskate, so you can explore the binding-free revolution. Got ‘em all? Then throw in a wakesurf board and make it an even four.

5. Can I always test a board on the water?

We have a demo program here at Hyperactive Watersports. Riders can take a new model and ride for a small rental fee. That fee is put towards the purchase of the board should you choose to buy it. Taking a new board for a demo is absolutely the best way to know if it will really work for you!
